Jianshi Bio BrightFISH ® Nucleic acid dye JSR-DY1004
Product Overview
BrightFISH® nucleic acid dye is a 10,000× stock solution fluorescent staining reagent, offering a safe alternative to the highly toxic EB for nucleic acid visualization. The reagent has been rigorously validated by both the Ames test and zebrafish assays as non‑mutagenic and incapable of penetrating intact cell membranes. It is excited by 488 nm blue light, eliminating the need for UV exposure—protecting laboratory personnel while minimizing damage to nucleic acid samples. The product withstands boiling at 100°C and exhibits excellent long‑term stability at room temperature; it can detect as little as 3 ng of DNA without interfering with normal electrophoretic migration. Even at high loading levels, bands remain clear and well‑defined, and it is compatible with both agarose gels and PAGE polyacrylamide gels. Post‑electrophoresis, no destaining step is required, and the staining working solution can be reused up to three times when stored away from light. Gels prepared using the gel‑staining method can be stored at room temperature in the dark for 5–7 days. When used with JianShi Bio’s proprietary DNA markers, it avoids band distortion and smearing, making it ideal for a wide range of nucleic acid electrophoresis applications in research laboratories. This product is intended solely for research use and is not approved for clinical diagnostics or applications in the food and pharmaceutical sectors.
Product Features
- Safe, low-toxicity, and non‑mutagenic: validated for safety using both the Ames test and zebrafish assays; unable to penetrate intact cell membranes; blue‑light imaging eliminates the need for UV illumination, thereby avoiding UV‑induced damage; serves as a non‑toxic alternative to ethidium bromide.
- Exceptional stability: supports long-term storage at room temperature, withstands boiling at 100°C, and exhibits no significant performance degradation upon repeated use.
- Ultra-high detection sensitivity: capable of detecting as little as 3 ng of DNA, with clear banding even for low-concentration nucleic acids.
- Excellent electrophoresis band resolution: does not interfere with DNA migration rates; even at high loading amounts, bands remain sharp without smearing or distortion; compatible with both agarose and PAGE gels.
- Simple and time-saving: No destaining is required after electrophoresis, and the staining solution can be stored away from light and reused up to three times.
- Wide compatibility with imaging equipment: Excited by a 488 nm laser, it is perfectly matched to blue-light gel‑cutter systems and blue-light gel scanners, and is also compatible with UV imaging systems.
- Flexible and convenient to use: The precast gel with dye can be stored at room temperature, protected from light, for 5–7 days, and when used with JianShi’s proprietary DNA marker, it produces clean, well-defined bands.

Super GelBlue Nucleic Acid Stain – Frequently Asked Questions
It can completely replace the highly toxic EB, offering significant safety advantages:
1. Confirmed to be non-mutagenic through dual validation in the Ames assay and zebrafish.
2. Dyes cannot penetrate intact cell membranes, thereby reducing the risk of human absorption;
3. Imaging is excited by 488 nm blue light, eliminating the need for UV irradiation and protecting both operators and nucleic acid samples.
The dot‑staining method is not recommended. It requires precise calculation of the ratios among the dye, the loading buffer, and the nucleic acid, making the procedure cumbersome and yielding inconsistent staining results; gel‑based staining or soaking‑in staining are preferred.
It can be stored for 5–7 days at room temperature, protected from light. To ensure clear electrophoresis bands and experimental reproducibility, it is recommended to prepare and use the solution fresh.
This dye is incompatible with all commercially available Marker brands and is highly prone to banding artifacts.
Compatible with ultraviolet imaging systems, but in UV mode the strip brightness is low, resulting in poor imaging quality.
It is ideally compatible with blue-light gel imaging systems and blue-light scanners (excited at 488 nm), delivering clear images while minimizing the risk of UV‑induced damage.
The dyeing working solution should be stored away from light and can be reused approximately three times.
The product exhibits exceptional stability, withstanding boiling at 100°C; when preparing gels, adding dyes during microwave‑assisted high‑temperature melting of agarose does not compromise their performance. It also supports long‑term storage at room temperature, maintaining consistent performance without degradation.
Limit of detection: 3 ng of trace DNA sample;
Applicable gel: Agarose gels and polyacrylamide PAGE gels are both suitable for routine nucleic acid electrophoresis.
Store at room temperature, protected from light. The expiration date is indicated on the outer packaging label.
It is normal for the gel to exhibit varying shades of color between the top and bottom; this does not affect DNA electrophoretic mobility or band visualization and has no impact on the final experimental results, so electrophoresis can proceed as usual.
